Capture the Feeling en Plein Air!
Friday-Sunday, June 16-18, 2017 (NEW DATES)
Humphrey History Park & Museum, Local Parks
Join us for this 3 day plein air workshop~ Let's get outside and experience the landscape! Why is it so important to paint from life? What will you see that a photo can't show you and how to translate that onto your canvas or paper. Evergreen is a beautiful area in the foothills with lots of Open Space parks, Aspen and Evergreen trees, rivers, meadows and mountain views. Come prepared to tap into why you are drawn to painting landscapes, what inspires you and start to apply that to the scenes you choose.

IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR YOU? Have you been told to ask yourself why you chose a particular scene to paint? Do your paintings look like everyone else's? Do you want to convey a particular mood or feeling but don't know how? Do you struggle with finding the "right" composition for your paintings? I have some very specific exercises and information to help YOU make your paintings "say" what you want them to and to know what that is!!

Daily Discussion and demos will include choosing a palette, the use of a red filter to evaluate value, selecting a composition and format to capture the mood you want to convey, creating and the value of notans plus lots of painting and seeing tips! Lots of time painting with patient, individual help.

We'll gather each day before heading out to paint. Each day will wrap up with a wind-down with refreshments. On Sunday afternoon we'll wrap up with a show-and-tell of our work from the workshop. Should we get bad weather, we can paint indoors.

"My journey as a painter is to use the energy I feel and transfer it though my painting medium. A drippy underpainting under broad patches of color and streaming light, scribbles of reflections, twigs and grasses and winking wildflowers. To convey my emotion and vision of the landscape in fleeting and peripheral glimpses. It's an experience filled with emotion, observation, awareness, vision, scents, and sounds...

I choose to paint the landscape, particularly en plein air, with its variety of textures, light, color and movement, for the challenge, to learn and grow as an artist. It's a constantly evolving process of learning to see more and differently. My newest works are bold, direct and emotional and I strive to capture the power and excitement that I experience while out in nature."
